1. Paris’ Louvre officially becomes the most visited museum in the world
Approximately 10.2 million tourists visited the Louvre in 2018 which is a new record for the prestigious art museum. As a result of this new statistic, the Louvre now holds the title of being the most visited museum in the world.
Which is great news for Paris as it’s a sign that tourists are now flocking to the world famous museum again after visitor numbers dropped in 2015 after terrorists tried to organize an attack on tourists at the Louvre. In the year following the terrorist attack visitor numbers had dropped approximately 30%.
If you’re wondering which museum comes in second place, when it comes to annual visitor numbers, the answer is the National Museum of China, which is located in Beijing and drew 8 million tourists in 2018. Many of which are domestic tourists from China’s various regions.
2. Democrats take control of the US House of Representatives
While the Republicans still control the Senate, the Democrats have successfully taken control of the House of Representatives and have reinstated Nancy Pelosi as the speaker of the house. The Democrats seizure of the House of Representatives has taken place after the recent midterm elections, in which the Republics lost favor with some parts of the country.
President Trump is likely to experience greater opposition to his bills as a result of the Democrats win. As an example, the Democrats are clear that they will oppose his plans to built a multi-billion dollar wall between the United States of America and Mexico.
3. Saudi Arabia seeks to charge five men with the death penalty over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi
The five men who the Saudi Arabian justice system apprehended as a result of the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey have appeared in court this month to face the charges against them.
However, as the men have been thought to have been ordered to murder Khashoggi by Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, many see the men as a scapegoat for the corrupt policies of Saudi Arabia’s leader.
While the crown prince has denied ordering the brutal slaying of Khashoggi, who died a US resident, audio tapes have been circulated internationally which prove that the crown prince did, in fact, know of the plans to kill Khashoggi and is likely to have ordered the hit himself.
4. A man has been stabbed to death in a Scientology building in Australia
A teenager has been arrested by the Sydney police after a man was stabbed to death in the Scientology headquarters in Sydney, Australia. Two men were stabbed in the building, one lost his life in the attack, while the other is currently recovering from his wounds in Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital.
The Sydney Scientology headquarters is a large 13,500 square meter building and is the largest Scientology building outside the US.
