Girl With Balloon made international headlines after it was mysteriously shredded immediately after it was sold at auction in 2018. Onlookers watched in horror as the painting which had just sold for 1.4 million US dollars shredded itself.
Banksy has confirmed that the shredding was intentionally planned and created a brand new piece of art which he titled Love in the Bin.

2. Nu Coche by Amedeo Modigliani
If you thought Girl With Balloon fetched a hefty sum, you may be astonished to hear that a painting which is titled Nu Coche was recently sold by Sotheby’s for 172 million US dollars. The painting in question is the largest painting by Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani and measures 58 inches across.
It was painted in 1917 as part of an exhibition which Modigliani put together to showcase what he called fine nude art.
At the same auction, another of Amedeo Modigliani’s paintings titled Le Repos was sold for 36.9 million dollars. To make a point of how in demand Modigliani’s paintings are at the same auction a painting by the French master Claude Monet was sold for far less than Nu Coche.
So if you love viewing pieces of fine art, around the world, it’s well worth visiting at least one art gallery which boasts a painting by Amedeo Modigliani. 3. Chinese contemporary art by Lu Shang
An example of a contemporary artist who is flourished on the art scene in 2018 is Lu Shang, a Chinese artist who was born in 1984 and specializes in creating new media installations which fuse art with augmented reality. Shang cites video games and her favorite films as some of the inspiration behind her artwork.
Shang was so successful in 2018 that she was able to host a solo art exhibition at M Woods, an exclusive art museum which is located in Beijing. Furthermore, Shang is now represented by Socitie a Berlin-based gallery which is famed for producing some of the world’s foremost up and coming artists. So expect to see a lot more about Lu Shang’s amazing pieces of art in the near future as her career is expected to grow from strength to strength.
