How to Plan the Interior of a Fitted Wardrobe

Colin · April 21, 2021 · Leave a Comment

You can give your bedroom a contemporary look and maximise space utilisation with a fitted wardrobe. Homeowners can choose from a variety of styles and design, colour, texture, and other modern finishes. Wardrobe door treatments vary as well. They can choose from sliding doors, swing-out doors, or doors with louvre panels. For a stylish and sophisticated look, check out the mirrored doors.

A fitted wardrobe looks seamless, with no gaps between the ceiling, walls, and floor. You can get all the storage space you need to make your bedroom look organised and tidy. Fitted wardrobes, which others call built in wardrobes, may be bigger than freestanding wardrobes, but they give a distinct look and feel despite their size. Instead of settling for several freestanding wardrobes that leave gaps in between, you get one continuous storage space, if you want it wall to wall.

Even if you get tall freestanding wardrobes, you will have a gap between the top of the closets and the ceiling. That space is valuable. You can use it as additional storage space when you opt for a built in wardrobe.

You can see how efficient a built in wardrobe can be. Now let us learn how to plan its interior.

Make an inventory and choose what to store

When you’re planning the wardrobe’s interior, the first thing to do is determine what you will store in it. It is safe to say that you accumulated several items over the years and it is possible that you are no longer using most of those items. Do an inventory of all the things you have inside your bedroom, from closets to hampers, baskets, and boxes. You may have items you can donate, and some stuff that you can recycle or throw away.

Do not think only of storing clothes. Plan storage space for your bags, shoes, and other accessories. Be realistic when making the plan. Think of how much space you will need for each category. If someone else is sharing the wardrobe, think about what they will need, too.

Segregate the items into categories

Sort through the items you have more thoroughly. Determine the items that need hanging and those that you can fold. See how many long items you have because you may need higher hanging rails. Make an inventory of your shoes. Separate the flats from high heels, boots, and trainers.

Consider different storage solutions

When planning the interior of your built in wardrobe, consider the varied storage options. You can have hanging rails and interior drawers and shelves. Do not settle for what the designer can build for you. Many storage solutions are available, adding more organisational capability to your wardrobe. Look at shoe racks and bins, portable drawers, door hangers with pockets, and belt and tie hangers.

Think of your future needs

Aside from the items you have right now, plan for the items that you are going to purchase in the future. A high-quality fitted wardrobe is almost a permanent fixture in your bedroom, so see that it is adaptable to fit your current and future needs. Do not forget the spaces for seasonal clothing.

Planning the interior of your built in wardrobe takes time. Carefully consider all the items so you can have space to store all the important stuff. You can also request help from an expert fitted wardrobe designer.
